Playstation Move the Right Move?

Recently, my coworker and I have had brief discussions about Microsoft and Sony’s recent foray into the motion gaming arena. He doesn’t follow gaming news as closely as I do, but he’d still come across a few articles about both the Natal and the PS Move. We discussed how interesting each device looks, both company’s possible motivations for creating these devices, and whether they seem like good ideas or not.

Better Late Than Never – Dark Phoenix Saga

Despite being a huge X-Men fan, I’ll admit, I haven’t read too many of the X-Men books (or any comics for that matter) from before 2000. I did read some of Claremont’s later stuff from the re-launch of the X-Men title from 1991, but that’s about it. Lately though, I’ve felt that I’ve missed a lot of some of the truly great and classic stories from X-Men’s history and I’ve learned that Claremont was instrumental in some of those stories. However, the single story that was consistently praised and the top of many “Best X-Men stories” lists was the Dark Phoenix Saga. I figured this was the best entrance to my reading of some the greatest X-Men stories that have been written.

Review: Final Fantasy XIII

It’s been about three and a half years since the last Final Fantasy title was released. It’s been even longer since this thirteenth installment was announced. In all this time, I’ve been anxiously awaiting this game, as I am with each Final Fantasy. While I wouldn’t put this entry up with some of my favorite titles in this series, it certainly wasn’t the worse. Read on while I elaborate further on this game’s pros and cons.

II: Final Fantasy XIII

This is the first Initial Impressions post, but it certainly won’t be the last. These posts will serve to deliver some of my first thoughts while playing through the first handful of hours in a game. For this entry, I’ll be looking at Final Fantasy XIII. I’ve gotten about six hours into the game so I’ll briefly write about some of my immediate likes and dislikes about this portion of the game. This article may contain some minor spoilers.

Kitty Pryde is a character that has been around for quite some time. She first appeared in the 80’s and became one of the youngest X-Men shortly after her introduction. Since then, she’s been used in the many different X-Men incarnations in movies, television, and even alternate Marvel universes in comics. In each incarnation though, she’s portrayed as being one of the younger characters. She’s also typically shown being recruited to join the X-Men. This makes her one of the more relatable characters since the viewer or reader is able to learn more about the X-Men alongside Kitty. This is incredibly useful for the writers as it allows them an easy way to make the viewer feel like a part of the team and initiate that emotional connection to the characters. I’ve certainly had these exact feelings seeing Kitty in a few different versions of the X-Men on television and comics.

My Interest is Piqued with Ultimate X

I’ll admit, when I saw the cover of the premier issue of Ultimate X, I was a little apprehensive. After seeing Wolverine die during Ultimatum, I had no idea how they were going to explain the existence of someone else with claws. That’s not really a mutant ability that a writer is going to give someone without connection to Wolverine. I just wasn’t sure how they were going to explain his existence and why he appeared to be a high school kid.

FFXIII Officially Reserved!

My excitement level for the newest Final Fantasy has been relatively muted in the lead up to this impending release. I recall in 2006, in the last month before FFXII came out, I was dying to get my hands on every nugget of information regarding that game’s release. That last month seemed to take forever. I hadn’t really felt too much excitement for FFXIII. Maybe part of that is because of my huge disappointment with FFXII. It may also be from what I’ve been hearing thus far about this new Final Fantasy. Although, honestly, the complaints many have shared about linearity don’t really bother me too much. I actually don’t mind the linearity at all. However, these complaints have still tempered my excitement slightly. Of course, that lack of excitement ended the minute I put down my money to reserve the game.

As I first read on io9.com, it seems some changes may be hitting the X books this summer. This may be nothing more than a teaser poster for the Second Coming event. It seems a little strange that they’d put out a poster as ambiguous as this for an event they’ve been pushing other previews for over the past few months.
